Facebook kills Organic reach for Sponsored Posts

Facebook’s December newsfeed algorithm change is so far punishing brand pages, regardless of how interested fans are in that page’s content, according to a new analysis by Ignite Social Media. Ignite analysts reviewed 689 posts across 21 brand pages (all of significant size, across a variety of industries) and found that, in the week since December 1, organic reach and organic reach percentage have each declined by 44% on average, with some pages seeing declines as high as 88%. Only one page in the analysis had improved reach, which came in at 5.6%.

Companies using Facebook pages have found it increasingly difficult to reach their audience through unpaid, organic promotion. Even those with thousands of fans see only a tiny fraction of their posts actually being viewed in newsfeeds. Many have suspected for some time that Facebook is pushing businesses to use Sponsored Posts, just to get them seen by people who already Like the brand.

Facebook now admits that businesses will need to pay in order to get their companies posts and information in user newsfeeds.

Facebook says …

We expect organic distribution of an individual Page’s posts to gradually decline over time as we continually work to make sure people have a meaningful experience on the site. To maximize delivery of your message in News Feed, your brand should consider using paid distribution, as it enabled you to reach people beyond your fan base and move beyond the organic competition

The reality is, if Facebook can display business posts in the newsfeed, they would far rather get paid for it then do it for free.

Their position shouldn’t surprise brands, many of whom have seen the writing on the wall for some time. Facebook has shareholders to keep happy – one of the things that make shareholders most happy is an increased revenue stream. Businesses that rely on Facebook for promotion are going to have to pay if they want greater than 1-2 percent “seen” rates on their posts.

So what does it mean for small brand pages trying to grow audience? Well it means you have to break the banks for Facebook or find an alternative

Apple is recycling, buying back old iPhones for $280

Apple has started a trade-in and recycling programme in the USA for older iPhones which the company then plans to resell in other countries.

The company will pay customers up to $280 for their old handsets, although the customer has to also have an existing — or take out a new — iPhone contract with a mobile network.

“In addition to helping support the environment, customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone,” a company spokesperson said.

The handsets being returned have to be in working order, and shown to be so in the Apple stores.

The recycling programme is being run by Brightstar for Apple. – NCW – Naijagist

Skype makes music come out of speakers instead of headphones

I spend a lot of time watching music videos with headphones while I’m on the computer. And for some reason, even when I completely shut off all skype sounds whatsoever, including notifications, whenever I get a notification from someone on a minimized or hidden/covered skype window, the notification plays through my speakers, along with any audio playing at that time for the duration of the notification sound.

It gets frustrating when you hear “9ice” blasting loud from my speakers when i have my headphones in just because i got a notification

To resolve this issue, I had to go to sound prefrences in the control panel and disable “Communicaitons Headphones”.

Once I did that, everything worked fine!

 Start -> Control Panel -> Sound -> Right Click and “Disable” Communications Headphones.

( also, if you right click on the window and press “show disabled devices” you can bring it back )

Deleting hiberfil.sys on Windows 7

You’re reading this article because there’s a gigantic hiberfil.sys file sitting in the root of your drive, and you want to get rid of it to free up some space… but you can’t!, Well you cant just remove it with a delete to recycle bin because its a system file but luckily, you actually can delete it, and i will show you how i overcame my own whoping 3.6GB hiberfil.sys file.

The more memory you have in your PC, the bigger the file will be.

So What is hiberfil.sys Anyway?

Windows has two power management modes that you can choose from: one is Sleep Mode, which keeps the PC running in a low power state so you can almost instantly get back to what you were working on. The other is Hibernate mode, which completely writes the memory out to the hard drive, and then powers the PC down entirely, so you can even take the battery out, put it back in, start back up, and be right back where you were.

Hibernate mode uses the hiberfil.sys file to store the the current state (memory) of the PC, and since it’s managed by Windows, you can’t delete the file.

Disable Hibernate (and Delete hiberfil.sys) in Windows 7 or Vista

You’ll need to open an administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt in the start menu, and then choosing Run as Administrator. Once you’re there, type in the following command:

powercfg -h off

And Guess what? You’ll also notice that the file is magically gone!

Inserting Adsense into SMF board and Topics Page

Google Adsense is the best approach when it comes to getting steady income from your Forum (including SMF forums).As we all know, there are exceptionally ways to acquire income when it comes to owing a forum, if you are a steady forum user you would have noticed that most of the forums we have over the internet make use of this income generating program to monetize the forum.
I use the 768*90 on the main header and i realized i was loosing too much money on other pages especially Boards and Topics/Message pages. It became evident when even Google sent me an email that i was loosing revenue so i woke up to adjust my pages. But the thing is that many SMF Forum owners don’t know how to do this in a SMF Forum. There are lots of mods that can easily help you do this, just a simple search at the smf mod site will help, But here in this post i will be writing on how to manually add you codes for those who love to tweak and know whats happening.

Inserting Adsense into the Topics Page

  1. Log Into Your SMF httpdocs/public_html folder
  2. Navigate and click on Themes Folder.
  3. Then Click on Default folder.
  4. Then click and Edit your Display.template.php file.

Search for :
<div id=”msg_’, $message['id'], ‘">’, $message['body'],

Replace With

if ($message['id'] == $context['first_message'])
echo '
<div style="float:right; width:350px;">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4444772205157012";
/* 300x250, created 8/18/10 */
google_ad_slot = "4759771142";
google_ad_width = 300;
google_ad_height = 250;
<script type="text/javascript"
</script>';echo '
', $message['body'],

Remember to change the “pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx” to your publisher ID or rather just get a new code from your adsense dash board and place it directly there.

Inserting Adsense into SMF Board/Topics Page

  1. Log Into Your SMF httpdocs/public_html folder
  2. Navigate and click on Themes Folder.
  3. Then Click on Active Themes folder.

<table align=”center” >
<script type=”text/javascript”><!–
google_ad_client = “ca-pub-4444772205157012”;
/* 468×60, created 9/4/10 */
google_ad_slot = “7942433950”;
google_ad_width = 468;
google_ad_height = 60;
<script type=”text/javascript”
<script type=”text/javascript”>
var _adynamo_client = “365f4359-921b-485e-bb5d-1a7b39af72ae”;

You can now send Offline Skype video messages

Skype’s video messaging service, available in beta form since February, is now an official part of the popular free calling service.

With Video Messaging for Skype you can record a video message and send it to friends, family and colleagues who aren’t online. They will see the message the next time they log in to Skype.

Video Messaging is accessible via Skype for Windows desktop, Skype for Windows 8, Skype for Mac, Skype for iPhone, Skype for iPad, Skype for Android, and Skype for BlackBerry.

“There’s also no limit to the number of video messages you can send or receive and the messages themselves may be as long as 3 minutes” – Not true because on the Blackberry Z10, It showed 25 free Videos, Upgrade to Premium to do Unlimited

Skype’s blog didn’t mention support for Microsoft’s Windows Phone, however, which seems odd since Microsoft owns Skype. CNET contacted Microsoft for comment and will update the story with further information. – CNET

Facebook launches Verified Pages, authenticating accounts like Twitter

Facebook today announced the launch of verified pages and profiles, which will make it easier for users to find official fan pages and accounts for top brands, celebrities, government officials and other public figures.

Like on Twitter, verified accounts on Facebook will be denoted with a small blue icon with a checkmark in it. It will appear next to the user or page’s name on their Timeline, in search results and elsewhere around Facebook.

Facebook Verified Pages

Verified Pages belong to a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences. This update is rolling out to profiles as well.

Although Twitter has had verified accounts for years, Facebook did not, even when it began its push to get celebrities on the platform with the launch of its subscribe feature, now called “follow.”
