Finally, after long years of ICT related divergence Ministries, bodies, laws, policy and efforts in various directions, there is a move to work through one focal point which I think for once is very good.

Download the Draft here from the Ministry of Communications Technology Website

I read Gbenga Sesan’s view on this draft and i share some of his thots as do the following.

Firstly, Section 6 which mentioned naming the ministry “Ministry of Communications and Information Technology” and bringing other related ICT agencies under its purview should be embraced. While name doesn’t depicts the Ministry’s actions, there is a need to pursue this vision under the right naming convention cos everything ICT is not inside Communications Technology and even down the Draft, the term ICT was used through out stating the ministry of CT left as an important I missing from its name.

Internet Access now Human Right says UN

United Nations

Last Friday, the United Nations released a report entitled “Report of the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression.”

Its author, Special Rapporteur Frank La Rue, wrote:

“Given that the Internet has become an indispensable tool for realizing a range of human rights, combating inequality, and accelerating development and human progress, ensuring universal access to the Internet should be a priority for all states. Each State should thus develop a concrete and effective policy…to make the Internet widely available, accessible and affordable to all segments of population.”

Cloud Computing – What is it?

What is Cloud Computing?

2009-10 has had several computing paradigms coming out but CLOUD COMPUTING has had too much share of this IT industry talks and this is just increasing daily because everyone is thinking Cloud. While i have always thought it is one of those IT jargon, I have come to conclude that yes it is one and yes it is not, why? hmm – it’s because its just the Cloud. Check this sentence from carinet.comThere, now that we have all the “buzzwords” out of the way, we can get to the business of it all. Grid/Cloud/Utility computing/hosting is the same thing“- True?

So what is Cloud Computing? is Cloud the Internet? How do i come into cloud? Whats in the cloud for me? How do i build a cloud? What research is left in cloud? how secured is cloud? is cloud not a revamped technology? … Brethren, Too much questions to ask about the cloud and i think i know why, It’s because of the hype around it.

NIST defines cloud computing as:

…a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model promotes availability and is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models

Data Warehouse & Data Mining

Database Concepts has always been an interesting topic to me. Since my early introductions to Dbase III asnd IV (which i used for my ND Project), I have always taking every turn with anything Database – developments, SQL, Optimizations and what have you. The fancy is that no real application is complete today without a Database and that makes it a more fascinating aspect of computing.

Concepts like Data Warehousing, Data Mining, Text/Web Mining, Database Types (Multimedia, Relational, Object Oriented e.t.c) dominate the research world of Databases. And Players like Microsoft (SQL Server), Oracle (Oracle, MySQL, TimesTen), Sybase, PostGreSQL push the usage and developments of DB to an interesting Height.

If you are asking about my take on these technologies as regards benchmarking, good better best or the versus stories, you’ll wait till some other editions on more definite topics. However, Completing my M-Tech thesis on Data Warehouse and Data Mining, I bundled my earlier review which you can take a look at. I believe its useful for novice and professional guys.
